Background
Caro worked in corporate America for 10 years, but feeling burnt out, she turned to therapy and spirituality. She founded Fuxihuman, a Taiwan-based provider of hypnotherapy services that help individuals grow mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. Caro's own experiences inspired her to help others struggling with burnout and stress, and she is committed to continuing her own journey of self-discovery and spiritual development through her work at Fuxihuman.
Problem
As a startup, Fuxihuman did not have a website to consolidate all of their information and services into one place. Their services, products and information were scattered across various online platforms.
They promoted their classes on Instagram, but customers had to make a reservation through a Google Form.
Completing the reservation required a separate payment through a banking app or at a physical ATM.
They sold merchandise on external websites like Etsy.
Solution
Centralize all relevant information:
The website should serve as a one-stop-shop for all information related to fuxihuman's services, including descriptions, pricing, availability, and contact details.
Simplify the booking and payment process:
The website should make it easy for customers to book and pay for services through a streamlined, user-friendly interface that minimizes friction and confusion.
Increase bookings and revenue:
The website should help fuxihuman attract more customers and generate more revenue by improving the overall customer experience and making it easier for people to find and book their services.
Research & Define
I gathered information about Fuxihuman’s customers through my client.
Key Target Audience:
The website should help fuxihuman attract more customers and generate more revenue by improving the overall customer experience and making it easier for people to find and book their services.
-
People who are seeking to improve their mental, spiritual, and emotional wellbeing through hypnotherapy and related services
-
Mid to high income customers who are willing to pay for $70 per session
-
Men and women between 25~45 years old
User Persona
To empathize with the target audience that will be using Fuxihuman’s website to book their services, I created a user persona.
Low-fi Wireframes
I created low-fi wireframes to visualize what the entire site would look like.
Information Architecture
I created low-fi wireframes to visualize what the entire site would look like.
Conflicts and Resolutions
My client and I met up once a week during this project, and we got the foundations down in the first 4 weeks.
After that, I was excited to develop the website on Wix finally!
However, I encountered multiple challenges during this phase.
Learning HTML
Multiple pages required ‘Filters’, but only the courses and blog pages had filter option. I had to find ways to incorporate filter tags on the website by implementing HTML codes. To accomplish this task, I had to expand my skill set and understanding in this language.
Requesting an Item
Renters can quickly and easily communicate their specific needs
Design with a big picture in mind
At first, I thought I could just drag and drop the content on to the website, but as I was putting together the site, I realized that my client is my user too, and I needed to make her site user-friendly for her to maintain in the future! I then discovered the use of the Wix database and spent a day with her to teach her how to maintain the website.
Time constraints
This was my first time building a full website using a website builder like Wix, and I underestimated how much time it would take me. This challenged me to manage my time more wisely and make the information foundations solid before fixating on the pixels.
Reflections
Designing and developing this website on my own was very challenging but very rewarding in the end! This was the first big project I'd ever worked on before, and being a solo designer required me to learn on the spot, quickly. Looking back, I could've spent more time on the wireframes and Information Architecture to lay out the foundation more thoroughly and help me speed up the development process.
